NABARD AND RURAL ROADS

This wing is headed by a Chief Engineer with four Circles and fourteen Divisions. It is entrusted with the construction of bridges and improvements of roads with loan assistance from National Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), construction of Railway Over Bridges, Railway Under Bridges and land acquisition for bypasses. The major activities of this wing and schemes being implemented by this wing are detailed below:

Functions:

  • Execution of bridges and roads with loan assistance from NABARD.
  • Construction of Road Over Bridges / Road under Bridges under Railway Works Programme.
  • Besides that, construction of Road Over Bridges / Road Under Bridges under Railway Works Programme and land acquisition for Bypasses are being taken up.

NABARD Assistance Schemes:

Construction of River Bridges in Government and Panchayat Union Roads

Under this scheme, 129 bridges at a cost of Rs 283.52 Crore taken up as spill over works and new works of 121 bridges at a cost of 235 Crore were sanctioned during  2012-2013.  A cumulative total of 250 bridges at a cost of Rs 518.52 Crore were taken up for execution. Of the 121 bridge works sanctioned in 2012-2013, tenders for 95 works have been called for and 24 works are being executed. For the remaining works, estimates are being prepared and tender to be called for shortly.

In 2012-2013, a total of 64 bridges have been completed incurring an expenditure of Rs 137.18 Crore.

For the year 2013-2014, an allotment of Rs.233 Crore has been made

Improvements to Other District Roads and Major District Roads

Under this scheme, spill over works on 11 roads to a length of 49 Km (12.20 Km Strengthening & 36.80 Km Widening) at a cost of Rs 13.32 Crore have been taken up. During 2012-2013, new works on 130 roads to a length of 433.72 Km (318.16 Km Strengthening & 115.56 Km Widening) at a cost of Rs.211.60 Crore were sanctioned.

Of these 130 roads, tenders were called for all the works and 30 works are in progress. The remaining works are to be commenced shortly.

During 2012-2013, 11 roads to a length of 49.00 Km (36.80 Km widening and 12.20 Km strengthening) incurring an expenditure of Rs 22.84 Crore has been completed.

For this year 2013-2014, an allotment of Rs.191.60 Crore has been made

Construction of River Bridges on Government roads

Under this scheme, spill over works of 7 bridges at a cost of Rs.10.25 Crore were taken up for execution during 2012-2013

5 bridges were completed incurring an expenditure of Rs 3.19 Crore.

For the year 2013-2014, an allotment of Rs.3.71 Crore has been made

Improvements to Rural Roads

Under this scheme, spill over works of 2 bridges at a cost of Rs.3.27 Crore in Panchayat Union Roads have been taken up for execution.

During 2012-2013, one bridge has been completed incurring an expenditure of Rs.0.81 Crore.

Construction of Railway Over Bridges/ Railway Under Bridges

20 Railway Over Bridges and 5 Railway Under Bridges at a cost of Rs.468.75 Crore in lieu of the existing level crossings have been taken up for execution under the Railway Works Programme. Of these, 6 works are in progress, 3 works are to be commenced shortly and bids to be invited for 16 works.

Formation of bypasses

Preparation of Detailed Project Report and land acquisition for the formation of 11 bypasses to a length of 109.05 km at a cost of Rs.116.73 Crore in major towns is in progress.

During 2012-2013, an expenditure of Rs. 52.69 Crore has been incurred.
